What are your goals? Do you focus on your goals? What do you do to achieve your goals?
Some say journaling daily helps us focus on our goals. The idea is that if we write down our goals (short and long term) every day, we can focus on those and DO what is important during that day to achieve them.
I listen to a podcast called The Cash Based Practice by Jarod Carter, DPT. It has been really helpful to me in figuring out how to start my own PT practice and be able to treat patients the way I feel is most legit and best for them (one-on-one for an hour! Wahoo!). WELL… in the last episode I listened to, he mentioned a book (“Testing the Impossible- 17 Questions That Changed My Life” by Tim Ferriss) that talks about goals! This book supposedly (I haven’t read it yet) states that every day we have the choice to chase field mice or hunt antelope…. meaning we can use our energy on little things that we don’t care much about or we can focus our energy every day on the big goals we have!
So I’m going to start journaling like this every morning:
- 3 things I’m GRATEFUL for:
- 3 antelope I’m hunting TODAY:
- 3 antelope I’m hunting long term:
Join me will you!?
I once read a book called “The Defining Decade- why your 20s matter and how to make the most of them now” by Meg Jay. (There is also a TedTalk on this topic!) I think I read it when I was 27, so a little late in the game… but it had some good insight! One thing I learned in that book that really stood out to me was to make goals realistic and focus on the timeline of them. The author mentions that if your goal is to be a lawyer and have a family with 3 kids by the time you’re 35, you better start working on that in your 20s, not when you turn 34. This hit home to me because I had a goal to be a physical therapist, married and have 2-3 kids by the time I was 35…. well I was a physical therapist when I read this book but I wasn’t married and I wasn’t even engaged! So it wasn’t too late… but I figured I better get to work on that family side of life! (Hense I’m still working on that… I did find the Mr…. that was an antelope goal at one time! Ha!)
I hope you will take a piece of paper and pen out and write down some things you are thankful for, and a few short and long term goals! Then GO FOR IT!! Don’t let anything, any thought, any age, any one or any insecurity stop you!
GET IT DONE MY FRIENDS!! Shoot, comment your goals on this blog post! You never know, your goals might inspire others or you may find someone can help you achieve those goals! (Hmm hmm..if it’s a health related thing… Um hi! I’m Bre and I LOVE making health goals happen!!)
Go chase those dreams, meet those goals!
xoxo – Bre
