What is Pilates and how is it used in Physical Therapy?
Pilates is a type of exercise that focuses on joint mobility, flexibility, core strength and overall connection of the mind, body and spirit.
Physical Therapy often consists of manual therapy (where the Physical Therapist uses his/her hands or other instruments to improve muscle and joint function) followed by stretches and exercises to enhance the newly regained mobility and strengthen the body in those ranges. We use Pilates exercises to stretch, strengthen and teach the mind to control the body in it's new movements.
